But why??

Why do this? Why create a new content platform in a world of Netflix and YouTube and Medium and Vimeo and [insert endless list]?

Because we need a platform that focuses on short works.

Creators and short works
Short works (short films, short fiction, that kind of thing) are an investment in a creator’s career.

Creators produce short works in order to hone their skills and show people in their industry what they are capable of doing. These works are an important bridge between the independent and commercial levels, but they are not expected to be monetised. We'd like to start changing that.

Our customers are the kind of people who pay for content, and our platform connects them with you.

Story Gremlin is designed to create a mechanism for customers to engage with content they are otherwise unlikely to find. We package creators' works in a unique way so that the process of discovering new content is fun and playful. Simply putting the content online wouldn't attract sales – we use the concept of the lucky dip to generate excitement at discovering what's in your latest Haul.

Creating an income stream for short works allows creators to recoup some of their costs and receive some compensation for their efforts. Our cost is low to encourage customers to purchase our content, and we give creators around half of our gross income (as opposed to profits – in other words, you make money even if we don't).

This isn't the only missing piece of the puzzle in the industry, but it's a missing piece. Our goal is for Story Gremlin to become a meaningful source of revenue for our select creators to help them succeed in a very tough industry.
